Simple Mittens




Size 8 straight needles.
2 stitch markers, 1 stitch holder
Large blunt needle

I used Caron Rhapsody. I believe it is discontinued now, but my mother picked this up at the Dollar Tree a while back.
This was my first attempt at knitting mittens..and also writing down what I did. So, hopefully these notes make sense.

pm= place marker
sm=slip marker
Kfb= knit front & back (makes an increase)
K2tog= knit 2 stitches together (decrease)

C.O. 28
K (garter stitch) 8 rows
K1 row, P1 row (stockinette stitch)..repeat for 10 more rows.
K14, pm, k2, pm, k14

K14, sm, Kfb both stitches, sm, k14 (30sts)

Stockinette Stitch (k 1 row, p 1 row) for 16 rows total.

Bind off with long tail to sew sides together.

Thumb:
Slip 12 sts onto needle.
Stockinette stitch for 6 rows.
K2tog, k2tog, k2, k2tog, k2tog. (8sts)

(k2tog) 4x (4sts)
P
Bind off leaving a tail to sew sides together.

Finishing:
Turn inside out, thread needle & sew up side of mitten. Weave in end.
Then, sew up side of thumb & make sure to secure it to the main part of the mitten between thumb and first finger. Weave in end.
