Just A Little Something

Heavenly Father, help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in
traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and
is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the dishes &
laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man
who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college
student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of
not getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the
same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to
addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through
the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this
moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week,
this will be the last year that they go shopping together.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us,
the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with
those we hold dear. Open our hearts not only to those who are close to
us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive,
show patience, empathy and love.

Working for God on earth doesn't pay much... but His retirement plan
is out of this world.

Book Review: Don't Check Your Brains at the Door.

Don't check your Brains at the Door
by Josh McDowell & Bob Hostetler

First off I have to say, I really wished I had gotten the actual book rather than the ebook this time!
This book is about a lot of Myths the world has about God, the Bible, Jesus, the Resurrection, Life & Happiness, and Religion & Christianity. It includes many things that can help our teens with the many things that they are going throug such as peer pressure. Although this book is aimed at teenagers, I found it could be great for adults as well. If only to remind us of the things we may have let slip from our minds along the winding roads of life. Very clearly written so that it can be understood by the reader. Highly recommended if you have a teen that has lots of questions about these topics.

"Christianity is not a religion. It is a relationship!"

Book Review: The Final Summit

The Final Summit by Andy Andrews

This was my first book by Andy Andrews. I was looking forward to enjoying it. Honestly, this is a good book. Lots of good principles. I just didn't think it was right for my tastes. I can say that Andrews does have an original idea with this book & including significant historical people (President Truman, Colonel Chamberlain, archangel Gabriel,Joan of Arc, Winston Churchill, etc.) will definitely draw lots of readers to it. I had to push myself to read it quickly for fear i would not finish it. I really do wish I had liked it better. I love learning about historical figures, I guess I was just not drawn in to them in this way. However, I'm sure others will love this book.

Book Review: Sweet Sanctuary

Sweet Sanctuary
by Sheila Walsh and Cindy Coloma

from Amazon.
Sweet Sanctuary is about a single mother, Wren, who is trying to do the right things for her son, Charlie. After everything she went through as a child, she just wants to make sure her son doesn't have to as well. That is until an unexpected birthday request from her grandmother sends her world upside down and she is filled with memories she would rather not think about. This story provided me with a mix of emotions as Wren had to face her family and her fears, but came to know the truth. God is always with us.

This story not only made me feel for Wren and her son and what they had been through, but also it made me feel hopeful that things would be okay for them. In the book, Wren comes to finally realize that if she let's God be in control, they will make it through the stormy seas of life. Because we never really know God's plan. Even if it involves doing things that are completely out of the comfort zone she has made for herself and Charlie. Sometimes the things we try to run away or protect ourselves from are actually the things we need most. To grow. To heal. To love. To forgive. Wren let people and her past circumstances shape who she is today and she doesn't do things she would really love to do. She let go of those dreams long ago. But, over the course of the story, Wren is met with new obstacles (family reunion, ex-husband, her job) that try to tear her down inside. She prays and prays. She finally realizes that she can let God in, let her walls down, and truly be happy, no matter what comes their way in the future.

I would have to say that the overall message of Sweet Sanctuary is one of love, truth, and hope. It reminded me that we are not in control. We need to pray for guidance and know that God will hear our prayers and will answer how and when He knows the time is best.
